We have met my initial goal of $1,000 for my required out-of-pocket deposit as part of my application to be seen by Dr. Marci Bowers for sex reassignment surgery. Yay!!!
I will be updating you all when I have actually scheduled a surgery date. It will probably be sometime in mid-2022. Which means I have from now until 2022 to figure out how to pay for surgery and any related costs. This includes anything required before surgery (e.g. laser hair removal on parts of current genitals), leading up to surgery (e.g. therapy and consultation), and the surgery costs themselves. Some of this may be partially covered by insurance, but we are talking about the course of three to four years; it's difficult to say what insurance situation I will have by 2022, let alone what the standard of coverage will be for transgender healthcare.
So I'm asking for your help. By donating to this campaign, you'll help me in meeting various costs NOT covered by insurance.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Daisy and I am a 23-year-old transgender woman from New Orleans, Louisiana.
I was born and raised here in NOLA. I work in the restaurant industry and just finished school at the University of New Orleans. I came out as a woman and began to live as myself full-time over two years ago now, and I have been on hormone replacement therapy for a little bit longer than that. My transition has been the most important thing I have ever done for myself. It's as if I lived in a haze before and I am finally beginning to live in clarity. I was dissociated from my body for the first twenty-one years of my life and now I finally live inside of it. While some transgender people do not seek genital surgery, I do. I can't possibly express what it feels like when your body makes sense to you except for one part. Your donation to this campaign will help me fix that and complete my transition.
