Dan Raines will be missed but never forgotten - Fundraiser to help Kelly Raines
On Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Daniel Raines, a beloved Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor, dad to an adopted son with disabilities, mentor, sanctuary owner, rescuer, and husband, lost his life in a horrific motorcycle accident in Cary, NC.
People always say, why do bad things happen to good people? This is absolutely true in this tragic case. Kelly and Dan were a power couple that was loved dearly by all! Good people, doing good for the community, children, adults, and animals. What we all fear the most happened to a loving family tearing it apart.
Kelly Raines lost her husband, love of her life, her rock, and someone who she shared her passion with. Dan was an incredible young man who worked hard every single day. After work he taught martial arts classes to children, adults and he was a rescuer too. Dan touched many lives, those of children especially. He adopted a young boy with disabilities and spent most of his time helping people within his community. Dan spent a lot of time working with children and their families. He was selfless. His young students were no strangers to his home. They loved coming to Dan and Kelly’s home after school and weekends to be with them and the rescued animals. Dan was a mentor to many.
As Owner and Instructor of Team Raines Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Dan created a special and affordable place where families could get together and train which did good for their body and soul. Dan was a friend, a mentor and kind soul. He cared deeply about those around him. People who had the privilege of knowing him describe him as a kind, selfless, smart and funny young guy who changed this world for the better. He lived his life believing in kindness and compassion.
Dan and Kelly have equally touched the lives of abused and neglected animals. The couple has been rescuing some of the most abused and neglected animals. Mr. Big the Pig Sanctuary was and still is a safe place for many rescued animals. The couple saved pigs, and other animals that needed them. Some of the animals came to their sanctuary sick and near death. This power couple provided them with excellent care paying everything out of their own pockets. They were reliable partners to other animal sanctuaries and always assisted in dire situations.
Daniel Raines touched many lives – humans and animals alike. Life is often unpredictable and tragic things happen to good people.
Kelly and Dan never asked for help. Their answer was always “We will be Ok”.
Dan gave his all to the community and the rescue world. We hope this fundraiser will go viral as now one of our own needs help. With Dan’s death, Kelly is left behind with a lot of bills and responsibility. Kelly is now facing a lot of uncertainty and pain.
Her rock, her partner, love of her life, was taken way too soon and now she needs all the help she can get.
This couple always helped others, we hope this time the community will come together and help a widow that needs our support. Her life was turned upside down, her pain is unimaginable, and we hope to ease her fear just a little bit by raising much needed funds.
