Makeda's "Showgirl" Dance Fund

My name is Makeda Voletta and I was born and raised in Harlem, NY.  I have a degree in Exercise and Sports Science and Sports Nutrition (2003) and I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (among other things).  I have been training as a dancer since the age of 5 at the Dance Theater of Harlem studying Classical Ballet and Tap.  As an adult I have been a serious student of the African Diaspora and the "Black Dance Aesthetic".
I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on dance training over the years.  No matter how great and professional a dancer gets, like an athlete a dancer much constantly train and take class.  In the past couple of years I have become a serious student of Pole Dance and I became certified as a Pole Dance Instructor just 5 months after I began my journey.  I have trained at many studios in the country but my main studio, my home studio in NYC is a studio called "Body and Pole" it is one of the best arial training centers in the world.  I would love to take my acrobatics, pole work and overall floor work to the next level. I would like to do so so that I may further develop my skills for a show I have been working on for years (and am still working on ) called "Priestess Of Fire".  In order for me to continue obtaining the skills and conditioning I need for this show, other performances, teaching and telling my story I must continue to train.  And just like many individual athletes, a dancers expenses far exceeds what we make so it can be a struggle.  I don't want to let go of my dreams so I have decided to turn to my fans who constantly tell me they are fans of my work.
I want to give myself at least 5 months to train hard so I can take my skills to the next level.  Skills that I will need to compete if I chose to enter a Pole Competition and skills I will need for my sensual dance exhibition "Priestess Of Fire".  They will also be the skills I need to go to the next level as a teacher. Many top pole instructors travel the world teaching and I hope to be in that category but before I get there I must invest a lot in myself and I am all invested out and it is becoming increasingly difficult to train. I do not want to loose site of my dreams so I am going for it.  I will need about $800 a month to train the way I need to.  About $300 a month will go to pole classes, $200 to adult gymnastics and acrobatics classes, and the remaining $300 will go to my Afro Caribbean Dance Classes (Haitian, Afro Cuban, Congolese, Afro Brazilian, etc) and Tap Dance classes.
To find out more about my passion for dance and the "Black Dance Aesthetic" please feel free to check out my YouTube video on the topic:

I have an overall goal $4,000 for the 5 month time period at a rate of at least $800 per month so I can train the way I need to.  And anyone who believes in me and what I am doing I will have a few different ways to show my gratitude.
