Firefighter Dan is Fighting Cancer
Donation protected
A Brief History
In June, 2017 Dan Moran was in his 18th year of service as a professional firefighter/paramedic when he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
He immediately began in-patient treatment at the Colorado Blood Cancer Institute, one of the top programs in the nation for blood and marrow transplantation. Over the next three months he underwent three rounds of chemotherapy and received a bone marrow transplant from his brother. He experienced a multitude of side effects and other illnesses during his treatment, but doctors were optimistic that his cancer was in remission after a marrow biopsy at ninety days post-transplant showed no signs of leukemia.
Unfortunately, in March, 2018 - six months after the transplant - a routine biopsy indicated that the leukemia had returned. It was an emotional blow. But Dan remains determined to continue his fight and has already received another round of chemo as he pursues the ultimate goal – to be declared cancer-free.
About the Morans
Dan and Jenn have been happily married for twenty years. Together they are raising two daughters, Taylor and Mady. As Taylor pursues a college education, Mady looks to start her own after graduating from high school this year. Dan and Jenn’s ability to meet the family's needs has been severely compromised by their mounting medical bills. Additionally Jenn’s seemingly countless new responsibilities, and her desire to be with Dan as much as possible throughout his treatment, have required her to drastically cut her hours at work. This has significantly decreased their income.
This illness has also left Dan unable to return to the career he loves. Within the next few months he will be taking a medical retirement, and the future is unclear as to how he will earn a living once he has beaten this disease.
Why Donate?
To date, the Morans have been overwhelmed by the generosity of friends and family who want to help. If you feel inclined, please consider a monetary donation that will be used to help with their lost wages, medical bills, and daily living expenses as they endure this hardship. Many thanks in advance. You can follow Dan's progress here https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/danmoran .
