My name is Mike Berry, I am an independent filmmaker and I suffer from depression. I felt it's effects yesterday, I felt them today and I will undoubtably feel them tommorow. For nearly 20 years I have suffered, 10 of those years I was secretly suicidal.
So many people suffer in silence, ashamed to say they are hurting, scared to be judged, laughed at or called "crazy." But this is a topic that I must address. I want to create a documentary about depression and how it affects so many people and their families, leaving some people hurt, broken or even dead from suicide. The documentary will rightly be called "PRESSURE" because that is exactlty how it feels every day. It will allow some to vent and release and others to learn what it's like to daily stand in a hole of darkness.
I plan to interview people of all ages, colors, creeds and levels of depression, to tell their stories of courage and pain. I will also interview experts on the subject, from doctors in various areas of mental health, to religious leaders. I want to address the matter, educate and help save lives.
I need to raise $5,000 to cover the cost of a small crew and a few pieces of equipment I need to add to what I already own. This will be more about time than money, but the 5k will allow me to do the best job I can. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a man of high integrity and will deliver as stated, and on the highest level I can. After completion, I plan to put this documentary into the theatres, as I have already had three theatrical releases. I also plan to take this piece to televesion and any other place that wants or needs to hear the message.
The campaign will run for 45 days and will mean so much to me, being that I have suffered for two decades and to so many others who suffer in silence, scared to be freed, living in fear of judgement.
