Daughters of Femicide A Documentary

Donation protected
This is the story of a fight being waged by many people against the brutal killing of women and girls because they are female. With beauty, with intimacy, with power, this film takes us from the streets of Juarez, Mexico to the living rooms of Minnesota.

This is a hard story – it is gripping, personal, tragic, graphic and beautifully told highlighting the remarkable efforts of a number of people who are all waged in fighting Femicide – in Juarez, in the US, and around the world.

"We can no longer stand by as women are murdered for one reason and one reason only, because they are women.  The crime of femicide is growing all over the world and often remains unpunished.  It is a human rights violation that is characterized by misunderstanding and impunity."
                                  --Michelle Bachelet, President of Chile

"We realize that a lot of homicide is in fact femicide"
                                                               --Diana E. H. Russell, PH. D

According to Jacquelyn Campbell Ph.D, RN, renowned international expert on domestic violence femicides, the United States has the most femicides in any industrialized nation.

What is Femicide?   Femicide vs homicide?
This documentary will boldy answer these questions by defining the differences.  It will show why it continues to grow and the importance in addressing it.  But it will take it even further...it will offer solutions so we can take steps towards ending it until it's no more.

According to Jacquelyn Campbell Ph.D, RN, renowned international expert on domestic violence femicides, the United States has the most cases of femicides in any industrialized nation, "We protect ourselves, lock our doors and windows from the stranger, but a woman's greatest threat lives with her," stressed Campbell.

In Mexico, there exists femicide cases where an intimate partner (husband, boyfriend, ex-boyfriend) are the perpetrators whom make their (wives, girlfriend, ex-girlfriend) murder look like the mutalized killings like those found in organized crimes.  This is done in an effort to throw off evidence and not link him to the murder.  Furthermore; impunity overthrows justice leaving families to endure the cruelty that comes from a corrupt system.

Many children grow up learning of impunity as their mother's killer go free or no effort is placed to solve the cases.  It is common to hear stories where the district attorney's office delivers a single bone to the families that was found in a desolate area and that is all the children can claim of what once was their mom.

For the last 30 years in Ciudad Juarez, thousands of young women have gone missing with only a couple hundred bodies recovered.  To date, young women continue to go missing.

What is currently being done? We covered the United Nations Symposium in 2015 where member states discussed what can realistically be done about femicide.  Issues like so-called honor killings, infanticide, rape and murder in conflict zones, killing
of "witches", death of sex slaves,  domestic violence femicides and other forms of femicide were discussed including the shortage of the women population in India and China because of male preference cultural norms.

When we asked the UN how will they dissuad cultural pratices or dependance on a billion dollar industry like sex-trafficking, which can end in femicide, their answer was, "Only through diplomacy can changes be made."

It is agreed, the problem is astronomical.

"If we are to effectively address gender-based killing of women, we need to challenge socially and culturally embedded and discriminatory norms."
                                                                                  --Croatian State

It is evident that our leaders can not deal with the issue alone, we must collaborate as a community by educating ourselves, helping wherever and however we can but also hold those responsible--accountable for their actions.  This is not an issue hurting women and girls alone; it isn't only happening in third-world nations or low-income families.  Femicide is a pandemic issue affecting all members in a community.

"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members."
                                                                       -- Mahatma Ghandi

Become part of this emerging social movement and help us address, inform and present solutions by donating to the completion of this movie.  We covered cases of femicide in Latin America, next, we will cover cases in the United States.  We need financial support to complete filming the United State's cases and for our post-production expenses.

Our world is in desperate need of a positive social movement that can help us understand violence against women.  But also, gain attainable solutions that can bring an end to gender violance.  All women and girls are someone's daughter and deserving of a life without violence.  This film promises to address just that.

Please like us on facebook and thank you for your support.

Why help us?  Become a pioneer of the femicide movement.  Currently, many nations are apprehensive to recognize these gender killings as femicide because admitting to the term means the problem exists.  We can't continue pretending these crimes don't exist or somehow don't affect us.
