Hi everyone welcome to David’s Go Fund Me account.
On behalf of all the people who have put their thoughts into getting this page started I would like to give you some insight on David’s life. David was diagnosed with IGA- Nephropathy when he was only 18 years old. For those that are not familiar with this disease it is also known as Berger’s Disease. It is a kidney disease that occurs when an antibody called immunoglobulin (IGA) lodges in your kidneys. This results in local inflammation that, over time, may hamper your kidneys’ ability to filter wastes from your blood. Currently no cure exists for IGA Nephropathy, but therapies that can delay the onset need for dialysis and transplantation are available.
David has dedicated his life to many extra-curricular activities. There are so many things that he is passionate about & one of them happens to be his love for Coaching Basketball at St. Columba Church located in Marine Park, Brooklyn. He has been coaching for 14+ years from 4th grade- 10th grade. If you have had the chance to see how much time & effort he puts into coaching than you would understand how much he truly loves it. He values his players & the friendships he makes along the way while coaching.
David is also a NY State Certified Firefighter & a NY State Certified EMT. He is a Volunteer Firefighter for Gerristen Beach, Brooklyn. Due to his medical challenges he is unable to do the physical work. He earned a Merit Citation. He was on their Engine Chauffeur during Superstorm Sandy in 2012. He not only helped the community but he also kept his crew safe, and saved their apparatus from flooding.
He has devoted so much time into making a difference in the community. For those that know him personally knows how much of an amazing huge hearted person he can be. & if you haven’t had the chance of meeting him maybe this bio will help you know more.
In the course of his disease last year things made an unsuspected turn of events. He was told by his doctor that he would soon need to start the process of dialysis. There are two main types of Dialysis (Hemodialysis & Peritoneal). The one that he is undergoing is Peritoneal. Peritoneal dialysis is a treatment for kidney failure that uses the lining of your abdomen, or belly, to filter your blood inside your body. Doctors call this lining the peritoneum. A doctor will place a soft tube, called a catheter, in your belly a few weeks before you start treatment. With how advanced technology is today he is able to do his dialysis treatments at home during his sleep.
With that being said David has to undergo the surgery before he can start the treatments which his insurance is not covering. We thought about him & knew it would be more beneficial to raise the money so that we can show him how much we appreciate him along his journey to recieve the proper treatments now & up until his Kidney Transplant!
Any amount is greatly appreciated. If you are just passing by to read his story please keep him in your prayers & spread the word on Social Media. If you are interested in possibly becoming a potential Donor you can contact Renewal (718)-431-9831 Ext: 209 Reference # 23473 David Ostrowski. Thank you
