David Weeda, Bernie Delegate 2016!

My name is David A. Weeda. I am from Leavenworth, Kansas and spent 17 years in Kansas City before moving to the east coast in 1999. For the past 13 years I have lived in Bucksport, Maine where I operate an off-grid, solar powered ecotourism Bed & Breakfast. I also am a busy Highland piper, and love sharing my music with folks who find me piping throughout the
Downeast and Acadia regions of Maine. I am thrilled and proud to have been elected as an at-large Delegate from the great state of Maine for Bernie Sanders as the Presidential nominee from the Democratic Party in 2016!
I have spent the past 35 years as a community educator, activist and an advocate for social justice, human rights, and non-violence through Peace & Anti-War Activism, Nuclear Disarmament Activism, Environmental Activism, Women's Rights and Pro-Choice Activism, LGBT Rights & Safety Activism, Anti-Racism Activism and HIV-AIDS Activism. I was the co-founder and executive director of Human Rights Project in Kansas City, Missouri. For 6 years we educated and mobilized the community and state to support and campaign for LGBT equality and safety. I worked on many campaigns at all levels during this time, including Michael Dukakis's 1988 Presidential Campaign. Through our voter education campaign, Human Rights Project was successful in securing several delegare seats in the Missouri Caucus in 1992. I attended the Missouri State Democratic Convention as a Delegate for Paul Tsongas. I was honored to receive the "Civil Libertarian of the Year" award from the ACLU of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas in 1994, for our work in defeating an anti-gay Constitutional Amendment initiative in Missouri.
I would greatly appreciate your financial support of my participation in the 2016 Democratic National Convention. I have been promoting Bernie Sanders and his political positions, philosophies and platform prior to his campaign to become the Presidential nominee. I am committed to our "Revolution At The Polls," and am eager to connect and network with others in Philadelphia who agree with me that our work is just beginning! WE have the power -- the POWER OF THE PEOPLE -- to shape our future and build better communities, a better nation and a better world. When we dream together and WORK together, our revolution can change the world! I believe we each have our voice and our vote; together -- with thoughtful dialog -- we can make great progress!
We are a frightened and divided nation. Our political districting, candidate nominating, lengthy campaigning, and voting processes are fraught with corruption, flaws, elitism, racism, voter suppression and voter complacency. The rich become richer and more powerful. . . corporations are given huge tax-breaks and send their jobs overseas, and their CEO's earn obscenely huge salaries, while workers suffer. Our food is poisoned, our water is poisoned, our one precious Earth and all its magnificent lifeforms are being fracked, pillaged and abused. We have dangerously altered our global climate, polluted our air and littered our oceans and river systems. Global terrorism is spawned in communities of oppressed and desperate religious fanatics. Gun violence in this nation is out of control! Citizens have no need for automoatic assault weapons. I will always be a strong advocate for the LGBT community. We MUST -- once and for all -- promote and support national anti-discrimination protection and work to end bigotry, hatred and violence. I am also a strong advocate for the separation of church and state. NO religious institutions belong in our public schools or legislatures.
I am "feeling the Bern!" -- and am asking for your help to get me, my voice (and my pipes!) to my seat INSIDE the Democratic National Convention. I am flying to Philadelphia on Sunday, July 24th; the Democratic National Convention runs from July 25th through July 28th. Thank you for reading my appeal and supporting this campaign. Peace, Love and Joy. . . as we build the future we can all believe in!
