Daye Gordon - SYDNEY BOUND!

SYDNEY BOUND!

Imagine being an 18-year-old kid who is invited to sing on one of the most celebrated stages in the world, the Sydney Opera House. My teenager, Daye, is one of 150 students out of 15,000 worldwide applicants who are invited to participate in the inaugural Honors Performance Series in Australia in July of this year.

Performers will spend six days in Sydney, where they will study under master conductors, make friends and experience an international performance adventure. To participate, Daye must raise approximately $5,000 for airfare and program costs. By joining in this program, Daye will inspire fellow students to reach beyond our town – to become international citizens – to reach for the stars.

Could you help Daye by making a contribution to help us make the fundraising goal?

Daye has received a $370 scholarship from The Honors Performance Series and we have already raised and paid $630 towards this effort, but we still have the balance of the program costs as well as travel costs – roughly $4,000 to go. (If anyone has any ideas for cheap flights to Sydney or wants to donate miles – I’d love to talk with you!)

We are holding a fundraising concert here in Northfield on Friday, April 28 through the Paine Mountain Arts Council at which we hope to raise about $500 or more. Paine Mountain Arts Council (PMAC) is a non-profit that provides programming to nurture the arts in Northfield.

Daye is a senior at Northfield High School here in rural Northfield VT. Daye has sung with All-State choirs in both Massachusetts and Vermont and has acted and sung in numerous musical productions.  They are currently writing and recording songs for a demo album. Performing and singing has become Daye’s primary activity and they are hoping to continue a career in music.

Daye is trying to earn money through gigs and jobs to apply to the balance.  I (Daye's mom) am selling jewelry, baked goods and jam I make to contribute as well as soliciting local support. As many of you know, I have had financial challenges the last few years and I have had to take a career sabbatical. While getting my life back together, I have struggled to be able to provide the resources for my kids to participate in the opportunities that arise.

Daye is engaged by his father nearly ever other week in Massachusetts as bass player and provides some vocals at the Hineini Chavurah, a Jewish Renewal based service, and has appeared in solo concerts at the Beth Tikva Coffee House two years running, opened for Namoli Brennet who is a touring singer songwriter.

Any help would be very appreciated – this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Daye (I am jealous and wish I could go) and we are grateful for your support and good wishes!

Gratefully,
