My wife of forty years is diabetic, and has been most of her life. Suffering with neuropathy in her legs, she uses a wheelchair to get about. Cellulitis visits her on occasion and three years ago she was infected in her left leg to the point that one toe was amputated.
Recuperation and therapy in a skilled facility for many weeks and thousands of dollars.
Medicare only goes so far.
She entered the hospital January 6 with shortness of breath. Kidney failure, fluid on lungs, and a scan showed mass on the liver. Medicines and a breathing ventilator begins the process to recovery before a biopsy shows cancerous liver but the source cannot be determined until she is in better physical condition.
She does not have the strength for chemotherapy, thus she will need to return to a skilled nursing facility. She has used her allotted time from medicare.
Plus once she can come home, there will be visiting nurses and supplies.
We believe she can regain her standard of living with the much needed therapies. Once she is stronger, she can then pursue her next battle with cancer.
