Delacour Family Cancer Fund
Donation protected
It’s been 16 months since we closed the fundraiser and we have an exciting update! Ben (my twin brother) is now considered operable! We were told numerous times he would never be operable because of how the cancer is in multiple organs. It feels surreal that we are about to take this aggressive step, but we know Ben is strong and believe he will recover swiftly then return to chemo as soon as possible. We are asking for donations to help make the next steps of treatment (after this surgery) possible.
On March 2nd, 2018, Ben will be undergoing a liver resection procedure at UWMC performed by a renowned surgeon. The cancer is not going to be removed from the lungs or colon until a later time. We have been told that it is unlikely that we will find a lung surgeon in this area that will be willing to do the procedure he will need, so travel costs are expected to be significant.
Since this cancer journey began in June of 2016, we have received so much support and love in many ways from friends, family, our community and even strangers on the internet. Even sharing this fundraiser on your social media networks helps.
If you would prefer to donate via other apps online, message me. I can also accept check or cash in person; Those donations can be added on to our fundraising total on here!
With gratitude,
The Delacours

On June 15th, 2016, my twin brother had a sudden onset of pain in his side and difficulty breathing. My mom took him to the ER. At first they thought it could be a kidney stone...but right there, in the ER, we saw that his scans showed he had multiple cancerous growths- Stage 4 metastatic cancer. He spent over a week at two different hospitals.
It still feels absolutely unbelievable that Ben has a tumor in his colon, on his liver and in both lungs. He's always been healthy and there was no clear indication that he was not. He rode his bicycle everywhere, and walked dogs hours on end. Ben is currently under the care of doctors and nurses and receiving treatment at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) and the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC).
In September, Ben's first scan since starting chemo on July 4th showed good signs with significant reduction of tumor sizes. He has chemo every other week. The chemo is keeping the cancer at bay, from growing or spreading. Ben's very strong!!! We are hopeful that he may eventually be considered operable or receive innovative treatments. We very much believe that Ben will be an "outlier." We are living life one day at a time, living in the present moment.
There are alternative therapies out there we hope Ben will be responsive to; Some are out of our immediate area. We are impacted by the cost of transporation/travel, among other expenses during this journey we never thought we'd be on.
I'm a Kindergarten/1st grade teacher in Seattle (Alki Elementary) and my mom just retired from the BNSF railway. Ben is unemployed. Gifted funds will really help the Delacour family in a multititude of ways.
Our family sincerely thanks you for donations of any size, thoughts and prayers. It all adds up.

Mom (Jeannie Delacour) and Ben at chemo.
At UWMC.
This is Ben's chemo port. It delivers chemo directly to his heart. The nurses also draw blood from it.
Cousin Rachel playing around when visiting Ben in the hospital.
Over the years, Ben has spent countless hours helping me set up my classrooms and has done all sorts of things to support my teaching and students.
