VISION: D.E.L.T.A STEAM Academy is the BEST at producing the next generation of culturally conscious, critical and creative thinkers.
MISSION: Our scholars are change agents equipped with a world class, rigorous STEAM education prepared to pursue college degrees and subsequent careers in these fields. Their strong sense of cultural
identity and strive towards deliberate excellence allow them to persevere as they break barriers. They operate with integrity as ambassadors of their communities using their agency to blaze trails for those that will come after them.
In the last 28 years, the STEM industry has experienced a 79% increase in growth, particularly in computer based jobs. Along with this growth, there has been an increase in the earnings of STEM professionals compared to that of non-STEM professionals. According to the US Census poverty statistics in September of 2018, African Americans make up the highest poverty rate in America at 21.2%,
yet only comprise 9% of the STEM industry. It stands to reason that having access to more lucrative career opportunities reduces the poverty rate in a community significantly. Access to such careers begins first with access to a quality education regardless of your zip code.
D.E.L.T.A. STEAM Academy will provide students in Douglas, South Fulton, and South Cobb counties and Atlanta Public Schools with this access through our rigorous curriculum that will equip students with the critical and creative thinking skills that are necessary to succeed in any college or career. Our STEAM immersion model follows the engineering design process of ASK--> IMAGINE --> PLAN --> CREATE --> IMPROVE. It will allow students multiple opportunities to engage in project-based learning fostering collaboration and problem-solving skills while simultaneously focusing on performing arts through the electives of music, band, dance, choir, and theater. We aim to bolster the academic skills of our students by intentionally focusing on character development and building community within and outside of our school. Our teachers will be able to deepen relationships with students as they loop with the same students for two years. We expect that these meaningful relationships will manifest into intentional academic achievement.
The vision for DSA was birthed by our CEO and Founder, Ms. Nikki Grier. As a former Biomedical Engineer turned Educator, Nikki is passionate about eradicating educational inequities for children of color, African American children in particular. As such, she believes deeply in our motto that Deliberate Excellence Leads To Acheivement and embodies our core values of Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, Cultural Competence, and Community (EPIC^2). She brings 13 years of experience to our school and will serve as our Founding School Leader next Fall.
We are a tuition-free public charter school located in Lithia Springs, GA. We recently received our approval from the Georgia State Charter Schools Commission and will open our doors on August 10, 2020 to our FOUNDING CLASSES of Kindergarten and 3rd Grade! We are the first K-8 school of our kind on the southwest side of Metro Atlanta and we hope you will join us in building our legacy!
As a start-up charter school, we are laying the foundation for our students and all those that will come in the future. We want to ensure that we are able to jumpstart the academic year with everything we need to properly support our students and staff. This start-up campaign will contribute to purchasing the following items that are not currently supported in our budget:
Classroom printers
Maker-space materials
Student supplies
PE equipment
Paint for the building
Flexible seating options for students
Equipment for Student Sensory Room
Teacher Lounge Furniture
If you wish to donate specific items, please visit our website at www.deltasteamacademy.com to learn more ways that you can support our school. Thank you in advance for the difference you will make in the lives of DSA students!
