Democracy Donuts: Vote With Your Gut
Hey Alberta, a spring provincial election is about to be called and we want you to vote with your gut! We’re a group of non-partisan, Calgary-based, voting and donut-enthusiasts who have come up with a delicious and fun initiative to encourage others to vote in the advanced polls. It’s called DEMOCRACY DONUTS. We are going to select five advanced polling stations (when dates are confirmed) as Democracy Donuts locations and when they open we will give voters donuts. That’s it!
It’s our way of encouraging everyone to visit the polls and then bring them together on something they can agree on - DONUTS!
But we need your help. We want to raise $2500 to make this happen. A $20 donation will buy 10 donuts during early voting. We will buy as many donuts as possible with the funds raised from Hoopla Donuts, Jelly Modern Donuts and Tim Hortons. Any additional funds raised will be donated to CIVIX a national non-profit organization dedicated to engaging youth in the democratic process through initiatives like Student Vote, a parallel election for K-12 students. We will withdraw the raised funds and pay the vendors directly and then donate the remaining funds to CIVIX via CanadaHelps.org.
Democracy Donuts is brought to you by Jeremy Fokkens, Jason Krell, Mike Morrison and Emma Stevens.
*Democracy Donuts is not supported by any political group, and every voter is encouraged to ‘vote with their gut’ for the candidate and party of their choice.*

About CIVIX: "CIVIX programming is free for students and teachers, and so we rely on external support to fund our efforts. Every donation we receive has a demonstrable effect in allowing us to reach more students, to improve their political knowledge and interest and to nurture the habits of their democratic participation. With your generous support, we can work together to make sure students, teachers and families across the country become active and engaged members of their community. Please visit Canada Helps to make an online contribution to CIVIX."
Democracy Donuts is not affiliated with CIVIX. We selected CIVIX as our charity of choice for leftover funds because we believe in their mission of engaging Canadian youth in democracy.
