On March 25, 2017, Chris, Dennis’s wife, came home to find Dennis (age 54), unresponsive on the living room floor. Within 2 1/2 hours, Dennis was in surgery at St. Luke's Hospital, in Duluth, diagnosed with a massive stroke. Chris was informed that Dennis had A-fib, which he had never been diagnosed with before. A clot let loose from his heart area and launched into the right side of his brain. There was so much pressure on the brain, they had to remove a portion of the right side of his skull which led them to put Dennis in an induced coma to allow time for the swelling and his blood pressure to go down. This took 12 days. The doctors said, “It is a miracle he is alive!” Although Dennis’s recovery has been unbelievable, he still has a long way to go as his cognizance will take a while to come back.
Dennis is set to go home Friday, May 28, to his home in Cloquet, MN, while continuing with physical therapy there. Sometime in June, Dennis will need to return to St. Luke's to have the portion of skull previously removed put back into place. Dennis has been and will continue to “sport” a pretty cool helmet in order for protection.
This is and will continue to be a heavy financial burden on Dennis’s family. Even if, and when, Chris is able to go back to work, Dennis will need to have a full-time caretaker while she's away. Dennis is a very strong, kind, and amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. The family is asking for any monetary donation you can give to help.
Thank you! We appreciate your kindness and prayers!
