Derrick Smith Memorial Garden
A group of Black and Latino teens from East Baltimore have been working together for the last three years developing community projects to promote cross-cultural sensitivity through the use of art and design.
Reflecting on the most recent loss of one of the young man’s father to a vicious homicide this group will continue to break away from racial stereotypes and promote peace through reflection, social action, and gardening. A new project they will be working on is The Derrick Smith Memorial Garden that will serve as a place to remember and celebrate the lives of Black and Latino men whose murders remain unsolved.
Through this project the teens will be reconnecting with the Earth and bringing life and beauty to a discarded lot to revitalize hope and prosperity in their community.
Your donation will help these young men buy:
- Gardening Tools
- Plants
- Dirt, Gravel, Mulch
- Sitting Areas
- Mural Supplies
