Help Marthias Go to College!

Donation protected

Hello Everyone,

I am raising money for my dear friend, Marthias Mulumba, to help him pay school fees and buy books for his first year of college.

Though you have not met Marthias, many of you have heard me speak of him over the years.  Marthias is an exceptional young man who I first met in 2007 when I was working in Uganda.  He is a very intelligent and ambitious young man, but up to this point in his life, he has not had the best opportunities or support to help him reach his goals.  Marthias is a hard worker who has overcome many severe challenges in his life, including losing both of his parents to AIDS while he was still very young.  As an orphan, Marthias grew up in the slums of Kampala as a homeless 'street rat,' which is how people referred to kids like him. He was abused, starving, and just struggling to survive each day. After five years on the streets, Marthias was saved from his desperate living situation by the charitable organization 'Never Again,' which gave Marthias a home, meals, and help to get into school.  When he was 20, Marthias completed studies at Old Kampala Senior Secondary School and was chosen as a special representative from his school to go on a study abroad trip to Tanzania, Rwanda, and Congo where he met with other students and learned about the politics and history of Africa. This was a defining moment in his life that helped him to discover what he wanted to do and who he wanted to become.

Marthias is greatly inspired by the teachings and examples set by such leaders as Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, and Barrack Obama. It is his dream to overcome the challenges in his life and become a great man and leader that can inspire other young Africans who have suffered, and continue to suffer, as he did.

Today, Marthias lives in Cape Town, South Africa, and was recently accepted to study at Cape Town College. He is working hard but is unable to make enough money to pay all his living expenses as well as paying for the tuition and books that he needs to attend college.  Because I believe in Marthias and his potential, and am always in awe of his ability to overcome adversity, his ambition, and his hard-work, I have set up this Go Fund Me as a way to help him raise enough money to continue his education.

Will you please help Marthias?  Any donation, no matter how small is greatly appreciated by both him and I.

Thank you,
Blaine and Marthias
