Give COMFORT to Diane this Holiday season
Aloha friends,
My name is Karen and for more than 20 years, Diane Tyler and I have enjoyed each other’s company. She has made me laugh from Huntsville to California, Texas to the Pacific Northwest. She has provided incredible words of support and wisdom throughout my life. And no matter what challenge she was tackling at the time, she always had time for me.
I imagine I am not the only one who can say these things about Diane. This is why I have decided to start a GoFundMe site on her behalf in hopes of raising enough funds for her to remain at home these last months/year of her life.
About a year ago, Diane was diagnosed with Hepatocellular Carcinoma (most common form of primary liver cancer), Stage IV. Once diagnosed, the average lifespan is one to five years with one year being the most common. In life terms this means that Diane has spent the past year wrestling mentally and physically with a tumor, that in typical Diane fashion, she has named, Carla. To try to make Carla go away she has undergone Chemo and radiation embolization (targeted form of use of chemo and radiation), radiation arc therapy, and immunotherapy. For more information and family pics, please see her facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MuthaTyler.
How serious is this? When Diane’s daughter, Elizabeth, spoke to Diane’s doctor at the time, he referred to the diagnosis as “morbid” and advised her to move up her wedding so that Diane could be in attendance. He did not think she would live through September. But Diane did survive and was able to enjoy the beautiful wedding.
But Carla is being very stubborn. Unfortunately, none of the procedures to date have had the hoped-for results. While she has tried to continue working at least part-time through all of this, she had to resign recently as managing the cancer is now a full time job. This was a very difficult decision for Diane as she loves her job as caseworker for at-risk-youth on probation in Delaware County, PA.
Diane is very realistic about what the future holds. If any of you have lived through a cancer journey and death with a loved one (as Diane and her sisters have with their Mother Syl), you know that the challenges of managing time and finances can be enormous.
The money we donate will be used to enable Diane to remain at home. With your help and the help of hospice, she will be able to achieve that. I’m hoping that by raising $20,000-$30,000, her wish to remain at home will be ensured.
‘Tis the season for the three big G's: Gratefulness, Goodness and Giving. My hope is that we can experience all three through this COMFORT and SUPPORT Fund for Diane. Thank you in advance for any size gift you can provide. Please feel free to share this GoFundMe site (https://www.gofundme.com/diane-tyler) as well as Diane’s facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/MuthaTyler).
Mahalo nui!
