DIDA Sports Organisation is a Community Interest project based between London and Budaka District, Eastern Uganda. DIDA (Develop, Inspire, Discipline, Achieve) is an initiative whose goal is to holistically develop Ugandan, and eventually East African youth from the young ages of 6 years all the way to 18 years and beyond.
Our goals are to enhance maximal sporting development of children and youths living in the local region, through training and nurturing of their talents within 3 disciplines; Chess, Football and Boxing.
• To empower a generation of Ugandan youth to truly understand and believe that they have their destiny in their own hands
• To transform individuals and communities in understanding the power of contribution to others
• Develop life skills for these players beyond their chosen discipline so as to ensure that every child has a future whether they make it professionally in the game or not.
We initiated #DIDA4Schools - our Chess in Schools Programme in April 2019 with five schools in the surrounding community and our Ugandan partners, SOM Chess Academy. We have just completed our 5th month of training . We registered 214 children in total who have consistently attended our monthly training.
In order to allow the kids to be assessed and graded, we are holding a closed tournament for them to all participate as individuals over 2 days on 23rd - 24th November 2019. We have managed to team up with Humanity First in Budaka who will host us over the 2 days. Schools in attendance will be;
Budaka Primary- 104 students
Kaderuna Primary- 15 students
Itangholi Primary - 9 students
Kaperi Primary - 33 students
Nakisenyi PS - 53 students
The winning 2 children will be selected to attend the SOM Annual Inter-project chess tournament in Kampala.
In order to make this event a success and ensure we can enable the winners to be transported and accommodated in Kampala over 4 days in December, we need as much support as possible.
DIDA 4 Schools end of year tournament - November 23rd - 24th, we need to raise £240
50 hire chairs £6
20 boxes of water £24
6 medals £20
2 trophies £40
8 reams of A4 paper £27 (to make 200 Certificates & grouping results)
200 Notebooks and pencils for notation £125
SOM Annual inter-project chess tournament December 9th - 13th we need to raise £150
This will cover costs for 1 teacher and 2 children to be transported from Budaka (3hrs from Kampala), fed and accommodated for 4 days
This is an amazing achievement for children who had never known about chess until 5 months ago. And we are so proud of them we want to ensure they are acknowledged for their discipline and diligent efforts. We thank the Heads and teachers for their continued collaboration and coordination.
We thank you in advance for your continued support.
