Direct Action at Lake Julian 7/4/17

We are a group of citizens and nonprofits who have come together to take a stand. We are fighting for our right to have an inhabitable planet for our children and grandchildren. A key to this is 100% renewable energy and the right to choose how our electricity is generated.
Duke Energy continues to use its political influence and force to thwart renewable energy. They continue to build contested pipelines including the Atlantic Coast Pipeline and Sabal Trail, and use legislative power to push two new fracked-gas plants down our throats. In Fall 2016 Duke got a piece of emergency legislation passed that allowed them to forgo Environmental Impact Statements and safety assessments typically required by law.
In addition to these tragedies Duke Energy is currently asking us, rate payers, for near $15B, including $1B to clean up the coal ash that has cost our friends and neighbors so much for so long. Enough is enough!
We are asking for 100% renewable energy, the right to choose where we get our electricity and a clean healthy planet for our children and their children.
On July 4th we claim independence from fossil fuels and corporate rule.
We can no longer sit idle as corporations destroy our liberty, our community, and our right to existence in the name of greed and profit.
This July 4th we will demand 100% renewable energy for Asheville and Buncombe County with a Direct Action on Lake Julian: Independence from Fossil Fuels.https://www.facebook.com/events/854783558006816
July 4th the largest crowd of people in our area will be in Lake Julian Park. About 3,000 people will be in attendance.
Calling all citizens concerned with climate change, fracked-gas and ending corporate rule.
Bring a boat, we plan to cross the lake to where Duke plans to build their 2 new fracked-gas plants.
This event is 100% volunteer run. We are raising money to cover the costs which include:
- legal fees
- boat launch fees ($5 per boat to the Park)
- food/drinks
- educational materials
- medical supplies
- transportation
- printing
Please contact us if you can donate any of these items directly, otherwise please donate what you can - every bit helps.
