Diva Day 2019

Diva Day keeps Kenyan girls in school by providing them with DivaCups and Diva Day Handbooks, ensuring no day of class will be missed due to menstruation. When we partner with a school in Kenya, we facilitate an empowerment workshop that includes visual arts, song, and interactive activities exploring female anatomy and the menstrual cycle. In Canada we produce a variety of arts-based events to amplify gender-marginalized voices, with all proceeds going towards the empowerment of women’s education in Kenya. We use the community-creating spaces of art and theatre to directly feed into the tangible change we wish to make in the world.
We seek to normalize and celebrate every aspect of the female experience.

In 2017, through generous donations from our Diva Day Community, we were able to raise over $5,000 which wholly went to the purchasing of the cups. We brought over 150 DivaCups to girls in Kenya, ensuring no day of school would be missed due to their periods. These menstrual cups are a sustainable alternative to pads and tampons, which are harmful to the environment and expensive to afford each and every month. A single Diva Cup will last for ten years and is simple to clean and use. 

This coming summer of 2019, thanks to our partnership with The DivaCup, we will be providing 1000 girls with DivaCups and menstrual health education. At Diva Day 2019 each girl will receive her very own DivaCup, as well as a Diva Day Handbook that features poetry by black female artists and pages on the female anatomy, self care and period tracking calendars to empower each girl to understand and embrace everything that makes her a phenomenal woman.
