Diverse International Women of Color Scholarship

DIWC History:
In the summer of 2012, with the help of my mother Beverly Guy-Harris, my grandmother Lovestine Harris and aunt Christine Harris, I had the grand opportunity to study abroad at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. While in attendance, I realized that I was one of the few women of color that were there to study abroad. I’ve always questioned why I did not see more women like me with this amazing latitude. I struggled financially with the cost, but thankfully, my mother, grandmother and aunt made sure that I kept going, no matter what. I am so thankful for them because without them, I would have not been able to reap the benefits of studying abroad.Personally, I know firsthand how difficult it could be maintaining financial status abroad and that is why I created the scholarship. My mission with this scholarship is to encourage, inspire and promote more women of color to broaden their horizons beyond the United States and expose them to different cultures. I want to pay it forward and remind female college students of color that there is a way, an avenue, to take that leap of faith to go abroad. It will define their personal goals, outcomes and potentially expand their knowledge of self. One of my major takeaways is “learning to not judge a book by its cover”.
Please donate if you can! Help me provide scholarships to our women of color in college!
