Meet Dixie, the 4 paw declaw kitty who has a second chance!

Note:  This fund is set up to benefit Dixie at Kenosha Forgotten Friends pet rescue.  100% of donations will go directly to her veterinary care.

One of the sweetest kitties we have ever met!

We were alerted last week by Chris of Cole and Marmalade, that there was a kitty in dire need of rescue.  She was posted on several sites as in danger of being euthanized because she was not using her litter box and she was four paw declawed.  Being four paw declawed, everyone began to assume that was her reason for being surrendered and her ultimate demise.

We contacted Tails Humane Society in Dekalb where she was being held, to get the whole story.  We found that, yes it was true, Dixie was not using her litter box for peeing or pooping, but there were multiple reasons why, and none of them, surprisingly had to do with her being declawed.  

First of all, Dixie was being bullied by other resident kitties and never came out from under the bed.

Secondly she had a urinary tract infection

AND  most of all Dixie has a major dental problem.  Her mouth has been neglected for a long time.

So this poor kitty was being bullied and most likely in immense pain, not to mention scared to death!  Who can blame her?

After consulting with Dr Carlisle we felt that we could definitely help Dixie. 

Our hope is to get her medical issues cleared up and give her a safe, calm environment and we are confident she will once again be using her litter box!

 

So Dixie’s Journey to a Second Chance began…
Dixie will need antibiotics for her mouth infection, xrays, pre-op bloodwork,  an ultrasound of her bladder
and major dental surgery and will likely loose some of her teeth.
