DJ DRE SOUNDZ'S Learn to DJ Program

My name is Adrian "Dre" Smith aka Dj Dre Soundz. I been a DJ since 1999. I currently DJ for the Boston Celtics, Boston College Basketball, and Boys and Girls Club of Boston.


I am looking for $8,000 to start my own Learn to Dj School. I would use the funds to purchase Analog and digital Dj equipment (ie. turntables, mixers, and controllers) for students to learn with. I would also use the funds to pay for space rentals from local Boys and Girls Clubs.



I would run two separete course, intermediate and advanced. Both course would be on weekends.

DJ 101 - Intermediate Overview (ages 8-17)

This course is designed for those who have never stepped in front of a DJ console and wants to learn the basics of DJing. We will teach you the fundamentals of DJing. This course will benefit all students whether you want to be a Mobile DJ, Club DJ, Battle DJ or if you’re simply looking for a new hobby. After each program, students will perform a “DJ set” with 8-10 tracks using the techniques taught during the course. Instructors will evaluate and grade each mix giving the students instant feedback. Upon completion, a certificate of competence will be awarded to successful candidates.

·      Hardware/learning audio chain/faders

·      Cueing

·      Dropping on the ONE

·      Beat matching/Mixing

·      EQing

·      Phrasing

·      Genres and Energy

·      Set building

·      Crowd reading and Requests

·      Industry - The Business 

·      Scratching - Learning how to baby scratch

 



DJ 102 - Advance Overview (ages 8-17)

This course is ideal for DJs who have completed the intermediate level course or have a basic understanding of DJ techniques. This course covers all the areas of advanced mixing, and transitioning skills through real-time experience and practical applications.

·      Introduction of Advance mixing concept

·      Effects On‐board / External

·      Introduction to Harmonic‐mixing

·      Layering on a 4‐channel mixer / maximizing your mixer 

·      EQ’s as effects & Basic mixer effects / effects paths

·      Understanding mixer routing paths

·      Using sends and returns

·      Chaining effects / getting creative

·      Live Performance

·      What can go wrong / understanding limitations? Differences between mixers



I feel like Djing saved me from the dangers of our city streets, and also opened doors of opportunities throughout my youth. Now, I'm the Program Leader at the Roxbury Boys and Girls Club, and if I received the funding I will do everything in my power to keep our youth off of the streets.
