Stop The Warriors From Moving
The Golden State Warriors’ home court has been in Oakland for over 45 seasons and it will remain that way with your help.
From those of us who remember when former Warriors head coach, Al Attles jumped out of his seat and onto the court in support of his star player, in the Warriors 1975 championship victory, to those who celebrated after the 2015 championship, we do not have to settle for the Warriors leaving Oakland, CA.
Warriors fans should take heart in the fact, the San Francisco Giants were sold twice with the intent to relocate the team to Toronto, Canada and St. Petersburg Florida respectively. In both instances victory for local fans was snatched from defeat because people in the City cared too much to let it happen.
In similar fashion, Oakland is not going to sit back and watch the current ownership group pack up the team and move across the bay - no disrespect to San Francisco.
With cranes in place at the Mission Bay arena site --a plan to keep the Warriors in Oakland is being developed in San Francisco, by fans who love Oakland, CA too much to sit back, just for the sake of having city bragging rights.
Make your voices heard and let the team owners know we will do all in our power to make it clear that the Warriors belong in Oakland/East Bay.
A small group of concerned citizens are collecting signatures to qualify 2 initiatives for the S.F. June 2018 ballot that if successful, would demonstrate, thinking people are against the proposed move:
One initiative petition - a Declaration of Policy underlining that San Franciscans believe that as much as the Golden State Warriors are the Bay Area’s team, their home court should remain in Oakland. The ballot measure has been dubbed the “Thou Shall Not Covet” policy and says that “San Franciscans will not endorse or condone the relocation of any team with an extensive history in another location”. Neighbors respecting and supporting each other should not be just a noble idea, it should be the way we roll.
The other initiative petition - a Charter Amendment that would expand the membership and roles/responsibilities of the S.F. Entertainment Commission to make it clear that major event centers in San Francisco, especially those across the street from a Children’s Hospital/Medical Center, must abide by the Good Neighbor policy that controls for noise, parking, trash, etc. It may seem that this initiative does not fit the objective of keeping the Warriors in Oakland - but it does. The ballot measure exposes city officials for their total disregard for existing San Francisco laws as well as its neighbor Oakland, just to help the current S.F. mayor establish his, "Legacy project." A 45-year legacy of Warriors basketball in Oakland, CA should trump any mayor's ego. This slap in the face move to the league's "greatest fans", who are also referred to as, "smartest basketball fans" is reprehensible.
