PROJECT RE-LAUNCH DUE TO NEW INFORMATION ABOUT JOHN SMITH IN WORLD WAR TWO
In March 2019 new information came to light about John Smith's work with the British Intelligence Officer Ted Allbeury during World War Two when they were working on the coast of the Firth of Forth to prevent German U-Boats landing to send spies into Britain. John it seems may have gone on to work with Allbeury when he was seconded to the team who broke the German conspiracy to flood Britain with counterfeit currency. Allbeury was the only person to para-shoot into Germany during World War Two from where he conducted counter intelligence operations.
The above short trailer is about my grandfather Private John Smith who was at the battle of Passchendaele in world war one. Sadly due to having an small car accident that gave me bad concussion I was unable to make the deadline for an armistice screening of this film and as you can see it has not met its financial goal yet. Further illness in 2019 prevented more work on this project, but now recovering this seems to be the time to complete the film and I have decided to continue with this appeal for funds to get an editor and sound mixer for the film because Go Fund Me has no deadlines on the way if raises funds.
Some may say I have failed by not making the Armistice screening deadline. So far the money will go on a student editor for one week. I also see the trailer give the wrong impression because I'm not looking for money to publish a book of John's poems. I need money for an editor for a month to help edit the footage I got from the 2017 Ypres commemorations and further interviews I collected in May 2019.
I think it would be a shame that this family history, like many of the others shown in the film, is lost because I was not able to get more conventional funding. Your money will help to create a more polished finished film. I have been trying to edit it myself and I am not an editor despite being a producer it would be wrong to think we know everything about film. I did not think my presentation or the sound was that great so I want to take the interviews, other footage and photos to put them together with a voice over which I have already written explaining my grandfather's story and other soldiers in a more complete way. If you can help me do this you will receive a copy of the film and a small booklet about his story included as well as a credit on the end titles as a Producer. All those who put money into the first launch will receive a small booklet about his life and remain on the list as contributors if they so wish.
