Documentary: Riding Across Canada!

Sometimes you need to take a risk, and create your own big break!

By some stroke of magic, I was able to find a documentary filmmaker to film my cross Canada comedy tour this summer for 8 weeks. His last big project is streaming on Netflix, with Judd Apatow as an executive producer.

I wanted this documentary to be done right. I toured Canada once a few years ago and always regretted not capturing that adventure. I did not want to feel that way this time around. I will be travelling solo on a motorcycle across the second largest country in the world.  Jokes and chokes, coast to coast.

My tour starts June 4th in St. John's Newfoundland, and ends in Dawson City Yukon, July 30th. I am booking it entirely on my own, with over 20 dates so far.

The documentary will be shot into 8 episodes as I ride from venue to venue, and stop in cool spots to meet locals and explore this amazing country.

There will be performances in converted churches, and even converted brothels. There will be a show at my former weekly venue The Ossington, oh how I've missed you. I will see new and familiar faces, and make memories for a lifetime.

I have done my solo show around the world, but it has yet to come home, and home is where my heart is.

Given the scale of this project, it is impossible to be done cheap. My filmmaker is a professional, and will have an assistant to handle the work load. There won't be any days off. They need cameras, hard drives, a drone, food, flights, accommodation, gas, car rentals. Oh boy.  I would love to shoot in 4k but as it is, the HD shoot will be over $20,000, and that is cutting every corner I can find, without harming the project. 4K requires four times the storage and cameras in the 10's of thousands once equipped properly.

That's where more magic might come into play. I have put on many free shows, done charity shows, paid my own way to get to everywhere I need to be. I have done this because I love what I do, and I can't imagine doing anything else. Making people laugh, come together, and have a great time is the best feeling I've ever had.

This business model, one that would concern most accountants, has enabled me to do shows for people who might not have the means to come out. I flyer to every walk of life and have had people who call the streets their bedroom, enjoy a show, and thank me for inviting them. I have had a couple whose wife was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, come out because they needed a laugh, and it warmed and almost broke my heart.

This time I was hoping I might find a little bit of help. This is the largest project I will have embarked on, and one that I want done in a way that gives it the best chance to come out the way I envision, and find distribution. I want this to be a documentary that takes you with me on this journey, with who I meet, where I ride, and where I perform.

I have found in this world, a little help goes a long way, and I little bit from you could change my life :)
