Documenting Mandan, ND
Donation protected
Mandan, North Dakota, is a city that is ever changing. With that change, many bulidings come and go, or become occupied by new organizations, which breath new life into them. Much of this change goes by without much documentation.
What this project will seek to document Mandan, both through video and photographs, as it stands today.
Mandan is continually changing, and the purpose of this project is to allow future generations to look back over the city’s history and see what it once looked like.
This project to document Mandan will be an ongoing project. The results of the work will be published in the Midwestern Scout, and will be featured on a new website that I’m creating.
In order to help preserve the results of this project, both the film negatives in which the photos are captured on, and the printed material will eventually be turned over to the public.
Funds
The funds for this project will go towards helping the documentation process. While I could use digital photography for this project, I am opting to capture these images on film, in order for the results to be more archival.
The funds will also go towards research. While a photo may be worth a thousands words, those words often don't deal with the actual history that is being captured. The goal of this project is to not only capture photos of what Mandan looks like today, but also to capture the history of each structure through the written word.
The more funds raised for this project, the further this project can go, and the better I can document Mandan.
As an added bonus, through March, all funds raised through this campaign will also be matched by a generous donor, who helped spur this project.
Community Support
With my various endeavors, I've seen a lot of community support, which I greatly appreciate. It allows me to know that I'm going in the right direction, and that the work I'm doing is also appreciated.
Projects like this do rely on the community support, either through donations, getting the word out, or helping with research (including personal stories).
It's something that can't be taken for granted, nor would I think of doing such. I sincerely appreciate the support, which is largely the reason that I plan on releasing the results of this project to the public for free.
