Dollars for Brodie

For the past month, my dog Brodie has had a slight cough after getting extremely excited or running around. Yesterday, he sunbathed outside for approximately 5 minutes but it took him 20 minutes to steady his breathing and that's when I realized there may be an issue.On October 16, 2017 at 7:15 am, I dropped Brodie off at the vet. I later received a call saying that he needs an x-ray so they can assess why he is breathing so heavily and wheezing. The x-ray revealed that he has blood-contaminated fluid built up in his chest that is pushing against his lungs (making it harder for him to breathe as seen in the above video) which is in turn causing his heart to race.

The vet was able to extract about 140mL of fluid from his chest, which is a lot for a dog his size, but she said there is still a lot more that needs to be removed.

Unfortunately, the x-ray was unable to reveal what is the cause of the fluid build up so the vet has recommended that he sees a specialist ASAP in order to diagnose the issue and come up with a treatment plan.

The cost of the x-ray and fluid removal was about $500. The cost to see the specialist would be around $2000-$4000.

As a college student, that is a super hefty bill to pay and I hate the fact that money is stopping from getting proper treatment for my dog.

He's such a loving and well-behaved dog and I hate the fact that he's going through this because he's never been sick or anything before this.
