Surgery Needed After Losing 150 Pounds

Donation protected
Hey, I'm Dominique! I am a lifestyle training coach and runway model currently looking to undergo a skin-removal/body-lift surgery after losing a substantial amount of weight. Please read below to find out why this surgery is so crucial along with a timeline of what led me to where I am today!

One of my most successful and gratifying accomplishments in life has been losing over 150 pounds after overcoming a terrifying addiction to food that constituted with binge eating, irregular eating habits, and consuming an excess of 5,000 calories daily!

While many things have transformed in life, there is still something I do struggle with today. I have excess skin along my inner thighs, back, chest, arms, and stomach. The most painful area where the excess skin resides is around my stomach. If I let the skin naturally hang, it feels as if it is going to tear with a painful, burning sensation. A daily measure I go through is wearing very tight and compressed high-waisted pants to hold the skin intact.

My health care provider does not consider my case to be a reconstructive surgery. The difference between reconstructive and cosmetic surgery is that when something is considered reconstructive, insurance will cover the cost of the procedure, otherwise you have to pay out of pocket. (On average, a surgery like this can cost around $15,000 per area where procedures are being done!) I have tried to explain to many doctors that I get rashes and feelings as if my skin is about to tear off because it pulls so far to the ground, but there is nothing they can do.

If you have any advice to help my situation, I would deeply appreciate your insight on the topic.

LIFESTYLE TRANSFORMATION TIMELINE

It all began back in 2015 after nearly drowning due to my obesity. I realized in that exact moment how crucial it was to take care of myself in order to survive, live, thrive! I hadn't been doing that prior... in fact, the only thing I was satisfying was a mental craving with many repercussions (gaining weight, fatigue, and depression, to name a few). I realized most importantly that if I wanted to live the life I truly desired, I NEEDED to be the one to put in action because no one could change my situation but me!

Being awakened to this idea, I gained a new sense of belief and confidence. The power of the two drove me to stay on track and not give up because I knew that with all efforts put forth, it would push me closer to my goal than doing nothing at all. Yes, there are days where I didn't give my all, there were days where I didn't eat the best, but the most important thing about it is that I was conscious of it all, acknowledging what I was doing, and prepared in a way to where it wouldn't throw me off track because of my newfound control of choice.

I also realized that I had to accept where I was and acknowledge that I can only grow from where I am now. Baby steps were the most important key because they give that little push of initial effort. I went from walking 3 miles to jogging 3 miles. Doing what I felt capable but still giving myself that extra push, because that is the only way you can force the challenge to occur.

A year into the journey I lost 100 pounds and all of a sudden became bed-ridden due to a T-Bone car accident. I spent an entire year without strength in my back to hold myself up as I would walk, along with a pinched nerve along my spine that sent a shooting pain up and down my spine with a simultaneous burning sensation that felt like a super tight band compressing my ribcage. It was rough, to say the least. But I was driven to overcome this. I cried it out because I thought I would never be able to run again, it felt so heartbreaking. But I honestly wouldn't give into the ultimate hype of that situation, I didn't want to throw a towel in on this journey just because of the situation. I pushed and pushed and pushed until one day I was able to stand for over an hour. I had to re-learn how to walk with coordination, how to jog with low impact on my body, so many things I thought I knew but had to learn again. Two years later and here I am! I am so so thankful, admirable of the Universe, and ultimately proud that I didn't give up at ALL costs!

It seems like a miracle, but this pain has been released from my body, for the most part, and I feel so close to getting back to my old-athletic self. In re-challenging myself, I accomplished an entirely new goal along the way: getting my mile down to 7 minutes and 20 seconds!

Through all adversities in life, we can supersede if we push ourselves to do so! All things become possible when we allow ourselves to see the positivity within any setback and use it to challenge ourselves, use it to become better versions of who we are, to become the vision we hold within our hearts. Challenge will lead us to success if we find out how to ace the test.

Aside from raising money for my surgery, I advocate within my community to help those who struggle to gain the motivation to stay on track with their goals. My mission is not only to be your motivator and help encourage your goals but teach you how to motivate yourself in the best way possible!
