Rally time!
We say NO to nuclear waste – our state and federal leaders need to listen and act!
Sat December 2, 2017, 11 am at Parliament House, North Tce, Adelaide, Kaurna Land.
Please donate so we can make this rally bigger and better than the last one and send a strong message to the Government.
The Federal government wants to build a nuclear waste 'facility' in SA. Some of this nuclear waste is toxic for hundreds of years and some for thousands of years. All of it all poses risks to the environment, to nearby communities and to many thousands of people along transport routes. We continue to say no to a nuclear waste dump in our state.
Communities in the Flinders Ranges and Kimba, on the Eyre Peninsula, are saying NO and asking for our support: Many locals don’t want industries such as tourism and farming threatened. Many Traditional Owners do not want cultural heritage sites and their spiritual connection to country put at risk. South Australians do not want their state turned into a nuclear dump. The issue continues to cause deep division and stress in the affected communities.
Nuclear waste dumps are illegal in SA: In response to earlier moves to dump waste in SA our Parliament passed a law to say No: the Nuclear Waste Facility (Prohibition) Act 2000. The objects of this Act are “to protect the health, safety and welfare of the people of South Australia and to protect the environment in which they live by prohibiting the establishment of certain nuclear waste storage facilities in this state.” This law is sensible and powerful and we want all our state politicians to use it to stop the federal government imposing a nuclear waste dump on SA.
Join us at Parliament House to make our voices heard. Come to North Terrace, 11 am, Saturday December 2, as we continue to call on our State and Federal governments to stand up for SA.
