Pay-It-Forward Fund: Homeless Youth
Donation protected
Together we can create a place for young people experiencing homelessness: a place where anyone is welcome, and where everyone can access the resources and tools needed to thrive....
The Doorway Project is working with university and community partners to design and build a community café that engages the U District’s homeless and marginalized youth and young adults, Seattle residents, and important social services.
Our aim is to create a space where homeless youth feel welcome by providing not only food, but a respectful and supportive community. We also hope that this café will be a safe place for homeless youth to interact with necessary resources, including medical professionals, housing counselors, therapists, social workers, lawyers, and community organizations. Together, we can build a place where homeless youth are seen as people, and not by the stereotypes that so often define them.
We are modeling a 'pay it forward' model: community members who can afford to pay will make up for those who can't. We are piloting this model through pop-up events, where we provide resources, coffee, meals, and music for the community.
This GoFundMe is organized and facilitated by the Doorway Project Registered Student Organization at UW and will operate as an ongoing community-supported direct fund for meals and drinks during our quarterly "Pop-Up Cafe" events.
Our next event will be on October 18th at the UW's Husky Union Building (HUB). We will be providing fresh food, snacks, and drinks valued together at $10-$12. Thank you for any support you can give!
