Mrs Mayne's Hip Replacement Surgery

Fundraising Campaign for Mrs. Doris Mayne.

Mrs. Mayne is a 79 year old widow and retired English teacher who for over 40 years taught at some of Jamaica's most prestigious schools. Hillel Academy and Jamaica College name most prominently among these.  Although "officially" retired from the classroom for years, Mrs. Mayne, ever the dedicated educator, has remained busy teaching extra lessons a few days a week.

Unfortunately on May 18th, 2017, while exiting a taxi on returning from extra-lessons, Mrs. Mayne suffered a bad fall. As a result of this fall she is bedridden in hospital with multiple complications, yet in remarkably good spirits. Mrs. Mayne has since been told by doctors that her hip is badly fractured and she will need urgent surgery.

As you can well imagine, hip surgery in Jamaica is very expensive. Initial estimates for the prosthetic hip, the surgeon and anaesthiologist is so far running at over JA$1,000,000 (£6,000 equivalent). This does not include any post-op costs e.g. physiotherapy. Unfortunately with very limited health insurance and a small teachers pension as her primary source of income, Mrs. Mayne now finds herself unable to cover this "mountain" of costs.

But we can all help Mrs. Mayne climb this seemingly insurmountable "mountain". Every single donation wether small or large could take her one step closer to her ultimate funding goal. Even Emailing, Facebooking or Tweeting this campaign to your friends, past students or anyone interested in helping out could just help get her to the top.

This campaign was organised by Clea, Damaris and Ron Bourne(page registrant), daughters and son-in-law of Mrs Doris Mayne (beneficiary). Damaris lives with Mrs Mayne in Kingston while Clea and her husband reside in the UK.  

HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED:

All funds raised via Gofundme will be used to offset the cost of Mrs Mayne's Primary Total Arthroplasty
(Hip replacement surgery in english) estimated at JA$1.2–1.5 million. This cost assumes no associated surgical complications e.g. infection etc. 

Itemised costs include;

1. Surgical Consultation
2. Prosthetic Hip Joint replacement(approximately 1/3 the cost of procedure.) from Surgix Jamaica Ltd.
2. Surgery (Orthopaedic Surgeon & Anaesthetisist).
