DOROTHY'S DIFFICULT START

Donation protected
Hi my name is Margaret. I am a Special Education teacher in Arlington Public Schools. I have had the privilege of teaching students with Autism for 20 years.  But this story is not about me; One of my student's family is going through a very difficult time.

Let me give you a little background about the Dayas-Tokoto family. They are a family of six, two boys and two girls. The eldest three are on the Autism spectrum and have various challenges of their own. The youngest Dorothy Dayas was born October 31st, 2016. She was born full term with a Congenital diaphragmatic hernia. She has been in the NICU since birth. Dorothy has faced numerous struggles from needing breathing tubes, dialysis, heart problems and recently needing a surgery to repair her diaphragm since it did not form properly while in utero. This issue prevented Dorothy from developing her lungs properly. She is slowly recovering but there is no telling how long she will need to stay in the NICU.

Once Dorothy is ready to go home, she will need long term care with Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and will be on her breathing tube possibly to the age of six.

The family has one income and is having difficulty paying rent, cost to travel by bus to Children's Hospital in DC from Arlington. Dorothy needs clothes and a crib as well. The Dayas-Tokoto family would be grateful to any amount of contributions you are able to give to also help with the absorbent amount of medical expenses that are accruing.
