Hello friends and family,
A lot of you know me as Summer. If you knew me as a child, I was 'Summer the tomboy' or 'Summer the snowboarder'. In high school, I became 'Summer the quiet kid'. Today, I feel more like myself than ever before, but today I don't go by Summer. Although this may be a shock to some of you, I think that most of you, with an open mind, can understand why I'm choosing this physical change. I am still Summer, as I will always be the same person on the inside. I am proud of that person and the person I am becoming through my transition. It's not easy to go against what society deems as normal, in order to truly feel like oneself; but now I could use your help to complete this journey.
This Gofundme is to raise money to help me afford Top Surgery. Top Surgery is a procedure done by a specialized plastic surgeon. It's almost like a double mastectomy, but the surgeon also sculpts the chest to give the appearance of a natural male physique. I know it seems drastic and may be hard for some of you (who feel quite comfortable in the body you were born into) to understand. My friend, who's had top surgery, put in words that makes sense for people who probably don't feel the way we do.
“Imagine if you had a perfect rack (bare with me here). As a female, a beautiful chest is sought after, some women even have surgery to get that. But back to the point… Imagine if you had a perfect rack, but it was on your back. It was beautiful, and natural, and how you were born, but didn't belong there. You'd buy clothes to cover this. And still if people noticed, it would make you uncomfortable. What would you do? “
Now I know this seems ridiculous. But this is how I feel, the body I have doesn't match the way I view myself. Not only that but, my chest is on the larger side - causing me back pain and discomfort daily.
Life is short, and if I can alter something about myself in order to feel happier and more comfortable, why not? If you were born with that perfect rack on your back, would you go your whole life hiding? That being said, I also want to do it the right way. It's a major surgery, and to avoid error I will only see the best. And the best, well the best doesn't take insurance.
Putting this online is extrememly difficult. I am not one to ask for hand-outs. If there was another way, believe me, I would do it. Living and working in LA has taught me a lot. The cost of living here is expensive, and I know with some help, I can be a much happier version of myself in a shorter time than if I were to do this alone. Please help me reach my goal. I will forever be thankful.
