Dr James Project
Donation protected
Bangor Diocese has supported the training of a doctor in Uganda over a period of years called Dr James Akello.
A team from Bangor met James during their visit to Lango in 2006 and subsequently has helped finance James Akello and George Opong to attend The Kampala International Medical University. Following their four years at University they returned to Lira to work as full time doctors at the hospital.
Dr James works in the Children's Department and we met him in the summer of 2014. During that visit, we witnessed the trauma of children struggling with malnourishment. Very often it is not the lack of food, but of education which leads to terrible rates of infant mortality.
The opportunity for James to obtain further qualifications to become a Consultant has arisen and we would like to support his education once more. This will enable him to specialise in maternal and neo-natal care and help prevent the high levels of maternal and infant mortality.
This appeal is part of the ongoing fundraising to pay the fees and help support Dr James' family while he trains.
Anything donation that you make will contribute directly to this doctor's education and desire to serve his patients. The first 2 years have successfully been paid for, only the 3rd year remains to be funded.
