Trading to Naples
On Feb 1st we will be embarking on a fundraising challenge to travel from Wales to Naples using only pizza as currency! We will begin the journey in Cardiff with just a sack of flour, case of tomatoes and a box of cheese. The challenge will be to sell enough pizza to get to the next stop, buy more ingredients and set aside any leftover money for the charity. I anticipate the journey taking around 3 weeks to complete before arriving in Naples.
We will start the trip at a launch event held at The PrintHaus, Cardiff on the 1st Feb with the absolute minimum to be able to trade. We will use money raised to get to the next place. Every day we will be completing a daily video diary following our journey and Blog on our social media channels. Our idea is to include and promote local producers by stopping off at different producers along the way, making a short film of what it is they do to be published in our daily video diary, and then taking their produce (where appropriate) to use on our menu later that day at the next location. We will purchase these products from money raised at the previous stop, although we will be encouraging a reduction in price so as the difference can be transferred to the charity pot. We will be selling pizzas either from our oven that we will be taking with us or by doing kitchen takeovers in pizzerias along the way.
We have planned the route and have a good idea of where we are going to stop off, but this is obviously open to change as we have no idea what awaits us in each location and whether we will make enough money to move on!
The route
Cardiff - Bristol - Oxford - London - Brighton - Canterbury - Amiens - Paris - Lyon/Dijon - Chamonix - Turin - Parma - San Marino - Pescara - Caramanico - Rome - Naples
Who we are
Dusty Knuckle began trading in Oct 2014. We are a pizza company with a passion for the finest quality foods. Since our first day of trading we have committed to topping our pizzas with the best ingredients. We use the finest pizza flour, San Marzano tomatoes and create unique flavours by using well sourced local ingredients, committing to supporting slow food principles wherever possible. We are wildly enthusiastic about ensuring people know the provenance of their food and understand the importance of eating clean, fair food. As a company we are committed to supporting our community and promoting slow food in any way possible.
Why we are doing it?
There is the obvious potential to make a significant sum of money as a one off donation. We will be raising money for Slow Food International who will ring fence the money for food education projects in the countries we visit. This trip also gives us the opportunity to promote the Slow Food movement. In addition, we take our social responsibility very seriously. We believe that all businesses, irrespective of their size, can contribute to causes outside of their own needs. We are therefore using this trip to try and communicate that message and launch our own community function as an example of how this can be achieved. From March onwards we will commit to a minimum of 1 event per month where we will go into schools, community groups, etc. and using the process of making pizza as a gateway to food education discussing not just the health benefits of eating properly, but also the importance of food provenance and supporting local food producers and traditions, encouraging people to reconnect with their food.
Donations
We are asking for donations little or large to help in our fundraising campaign. Your money will help raise funds for food education programmes in the UK, France & Italy.
Thanks guys xxxx
