My name is Laura and the love of my life has just been diagnosed with Metastatic Ewing's Sarcoma.
Ewing's Sarcoma is not a term you hear often, probably not ever in the average person's lifetime. Ewing's Sarcoma is a very rare and extremely aggressive form of bone cancer. This isn't the kind you can put into stages, it's either metastatic (spread to other regions in the body) or not.
Dyllan has a primary 8cmx9cmx12cm in size in the middle of his left femur - hence the need for a wheelchair - and then has multiple metastasis on his lungs, pelvis, spine and in his lymphnodes.
This cancer is often referred to as a paediatric cancer as it is most common in the under 20's. At 24, Dyl is a little older than the average and unfortunately that doesn't play in his favour.
Not only has this put our entire lives on hold but it also means at least 12 months of intensive chemotherapy treatment and invasis reconstructive surgery to Dyllan's left femur if the chemo is successful.
At 24 years of age, Dyl is one of the most passionate, active, intelligent and hard working people I know. In the last 8 months he has begun a successful Photography company (dyllanwho.com) which will have to take a backseat to cancer. I am a student nurse and casual retail worker who will now be Dyllan's fulltime carer as his mobility has become extremely limited and his physical and emotional needs are too great for him to cope with alone.
We are beginning to realise the sheer volume of money that necessities cost. A decent wheelchair, a walking frame, medication (!!!!), parking at hospitals, no income etc.
Starting to make sense right?
We're both very proud and very stubborn people, but we know we can't fight this on our own.
Any donation, big or small, means the absolute world to us, it has the power to restore some of his independence that has so suddenly been taken.
