Easton Acts Refugee Resettlement

Tax deductible
We are witnessing an unprecedented crisis. 22.5 million refugees, over half of whom are under the age of 18, from places like Afghanistan, Syria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Iran, Iraq and Sudan are forced to flee their homes, giving up everything they have, to wait — often for years in refugee camps— for a chance at safety and security for their families.

The lucky ones — 85,000 women, children and men --are interviewed, screened and invited to become Americans. But they don’t get a free ride. They take out loans to pay their airfare to the U.S. They arrive legally, fully documented, with many skills but often without English and without much money. They appreciate the things we often take for granted: Freedom, Security, Opportunities.

Easton ACTS (Easton Area Congregations Together in Service), is responding to the refugee crisis by co-sponsoring a refugee family and helping them resettle into a local community here in Connecticut. We are doing this in partnership with an organization called IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services).

Jesus asks us to love our neighbors, and the important work of welcoming persecuted people from other countries is not only a response to God’s call, but a noble American tradition. These families come to our country with nothing and they look to their new neighbors for guidance, help and friendly support.

As co-sponsors, we will help locate and set up housing, arrange healthcare, enroll the family members in English classes; the children in school, assist with securing employment, help with transportation needs, as well as teach them how to create a budget and manage their financial responsibilities. Your donation to Easton ACTS will help cover living expenses (during the first 6 months) for a refugee family co-sponsored by IRIS and Easton ACTS, with the end goal of the sponsored family becoming self-sufficient and an active participant in their community within 12 months.

Now is the time to stop watching and start living God’s call to share our gifts and to help those most in need. Thank you for your donation.
