Edison Summer School to the Zoo

Edison Elementary students need tickets to visit the Hogle Zoo and transportation to get there.
Edison students are eager learners! They are met with rigorous curriculum and high expectations daily. They rise to meet each and every challenge they are confronted with. The majority of my students are English Language Learners who attend an urban, high poverty, public school in Utah. They have very few opportunities to explore the enrichment opportunities our city has to offer them. This summer those enrolled in summer school have the opportunity to experience real hands on learning. They will be able to take what they learn in class and see real life examples as they visit the Hogle Zoo for the first time.
This field trip will be a culmination of what we will learn in summer school. They will have the opportunity to observe animal characteristics and adaptations as they observe real animals. They will be able to discuss the animals in detail, using new vocabulary because of the background knowledge they will have gained throughout the summer school program. This experience will enhance their learning of nature and inspire them to continue to learn more about the animals that live in our world.
This field trip will definitely change their lives for the better! They will have the opportunity to observe animals in real life.
They will expand their English vocabulary as they interact with animals that they don't see in their everyday environment. This will be a memorable day in their lives. Allowing them to share the experience with their peers and embark on an adventure that they normally would not be able to have.
