HIS STORY
After the Allied invasion on D-Day (June 06, 1944), the Germans were fighting hard to keep their clutches on the communities throughout Normandy they had occupied for four long years.

PFC. Edward Tipper,  job was to go street by street in the strategic occupied French town and clear houses. That meant throwing a grenade through a doorway or window, rushing in, and ferreting out the enemy. Civilians had long since left the area. At the very first house, on the very first doorstep, Tipper was poised on the front stoop when a rogue mortar shell whistled in and exploded. The blast knocked him back in a fury of dirt and broken brick building. Tipper felt no pain immediately although his right eye was destroyed, and both legs were broken.

Remarkably, Tipper, a paratrooper with Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, the elite unit that eventually became known as the Band of Brothers, stayed standing and didn’t drop his weapon.

His good friend, Joe Liebgott, sprinted over and helped him sit. For months, Tipper was in bad shape, but eventually his broken legs knitted back together. The Army fitted Tipper with an artificial eye. In 1945, Tipper was pronounced well and discharged from the military.

Despite battling reoccurring nightmares, post-traumatic stress, and the limitations caused by his wounds, Tipper went on to lead a highly productive life. He returned to university, earned his undergraduate degree, credentials, and master’s degree, and became a high school teacher.

HELP NEEDED
Today, the humble 94-year-old World War II veteran living out his final years with his family in Colorado can no longer challenge the stairs in his home and is restricted to the second level 24/7.

Therefore, TGGF has taken on the challenge to help one of the last living paratroopers with Easy Company by raising $11,500 to mount a custom ACORN 180 STAIRLIFT into his house to allow him to become more moveable within his house.

We don't believe one of our finest should have to buy a device like this. Therefore, we kindly ask that you open your hearts and make a generous gift that will help PFC. Edward Tipper in this Hands helping Heroes initiative supported by The Greatest Generations Foundation (TGGF) a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring veterans by commemorating the battles in which they fought and the patriotism that they epitomize.

All proceeds for this campaign, will be send directly to the Tipper family.
