To our El Palacio friends, family, and customers

I am extremely heartbroken to announce that our Chandler location will close on January 14.

I am making this decision with tremendous sadness and reluctance. I have spent 8 years of my life trying to make the restaurant profitable using all the means at my disposable.  We’ve been featured multiple times on local & national TV, we’ve won multiple awards at culinary competitions, we’ve tried using various marketing companies, we’ve tried launching great promotions, all on top of offering great food & service.  All this success & work however has never translated into enough new customers to support us. Sure, in the course of 8 years we’ve made our share of mistakes & had missteps, but we’ve always tried to correct them & learn from them.  However, after 8 years we realize everything, even a restaurant, has an expiration date.

I’ve poured my heart, soul, and health into this business, not to mention an enormous amount of time, energy, and my own financial resources, as well as those provided by my family.

After much time and reflection I’ve come to realize that the strain is too much and this restaurant is no longer viable from a business perspective.  We are asking our landlord to release us from our lease before we are ruined financially and because of this, our closing date is out of our hands.  Unfortunately, the public’s unbreakable loyalty to chains & big corporations, the popularity of fast casual restaurants, and the recent increases in the minimum wage are the leading factors in this decision.

I am also very sorry that my amazing staff and managers now have to look for work.  Their dedication & hard work are a testament to small businesses and what really makes our country great. I am looking forward to seeing all the great things they will achieve.

In addition I want to thank our wonderful & loyal guests that have not only become friends but part of the El Palacio family.  Your loyalty and love make this decision tougher than it already is.

We have a lot of great & happy memories and we hope you do as well.

Our pride and honor has kept us from sharing our struggles publicly but because of the substantial financial burden this has caused my family I am launching a GoFund me account to help us honor our final financial commitments & hopefully not close on such a low note.

I wish everyone the best and I am excited to start the next chapter in my life.

We hope to see you one last time before we close up on January 14th.

Remember there is plenty of businesses like us that are drowning in a sea of chains and need your support.  Always try to dine & shop local and support your local businesses.

Thank you,

Chef Anthony
