Ellee's Car Situation: A Three Ring Circus
Donation protected
My dear friend Elle has had a string of horrible luck this year, in her words....this last year has been a bit of a three ring circus.
Shortly after accepting a job making quite a bit more money than her last, her old Mercedes took its final death rattle in the middle of an intersection. It was towed to a dealership that she has used for repairs for years and was told that it would cost more to repair than the car was worth.
They showed her a Ford Escape they took in on trade, they inspected it and told her it was ready to go. She test drove it and was assured the only maintenance she would need to do, is get new tires withing the next year. She drove the Ford Escape for two and a half weeks and put less than200 miles on it when she thought it had a flat tire.
The closest shop took one look at the vehicle and said the subframe was completely rusted through and a complete inspection would have caught this damage. The vehicle was towed back to the dealership where she was assured they “would take care of her”. She was without her vehicle from May through August and how did the dealership take care of her.....….by presenting her with a bill for $850.
She was able to borrow the money from a friend but in the meantime, without her car, was unable to get to work, lost the job, and as a result lost her apartment. Both she and her son have been couch surfing since July because it’s nearly impossible to rent another apartment once there’s an eviction judgment on your record.
So she finally had her car back and was excited to be in a position to get ahead. She drove the vehicle less than 25 miles… and the TRANSMISSION FAILED!!!
She's back to square one and without the $2700 necessary to repair her car. There is no bus service where she is currently staying with a friend and she is spending literally everything she makes on cabs and Lyft rides.
She's been offered an opportunity to relocate and start over and has a pretty good job lined up when she gets there. Getting back on her feet and getting her son back and forth to school is going to be next to impossible without her vehicle. She is a proud woman… and it’s not in her nature to ask for help. So I am asking for her! She is at the point where she has no where else to turn. All she wants is to get back to living a life that’s remotely normal again.
Any money raised over the amount for car repairs will be used for moving and travel expenses.
