Emergent Arts has been in existence for about 9 years, and I have produced plays and events in the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti areas all through that time, at The Miller Theatre in Ann Arbor, Riverside Arts in Ypsilanti, and a year and a half residency at the Mix Studio Theatre in Ypsilanti.
In that time, I have produced about 20 plays, another 20 evenings of musical and comedic entertainment, several readings, and a long-running open mic, the UNclub (3 years this coming September!) which currently resides at the Yellow Barn.
Emergent Arts has presented plays as diverse as A. R. Gurney's readers' theatre, to Neil LaBute's penetrating "Fat Pig", to wild comedies like "The Complete History of America (abridged)" and "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised]" by The Reduced Shakespeare Company, to original works such as "Hollywood and Hyde" and "Confessions of The Easter Bunny" both by Tim Henning (that's me).
My first love will always be live theatre, and I have a play coming up in July at the Yellow Barn, but I need your help. The great people at Theatre Nova and the Yellow Barn have given me a chance to get Emergent Arts back on its feet. I am eager to take advantage of that chance with the reprise of "Hollywood and Hyde". Some of you may have seen it a couple years ago at the Mix. My goal is to present a more refined version at Yellow Barn in July.
That costs money. So far, I have financed all my productions through ticket sales and my own wages, and an occasional gift from a friend/angel. It has pushed me many times to the "breaking point". But never past it. For good or bad, I have to keep doing this thing called theatre.
Please give what you can, and know that it will go toward keeping at least one small corner of the theatre world alive.
