Emma Boyd - Lawn Bowling Travels
Donation protected
My name is Emma Boyd. I’m a Grade 12 student who lives in Tsawwassen, British Columbia Canada. I currently work part time, attend school and train to support my career in lawn bowling. My long term plans are to work in the field of sport science and to compete internationally.
My Story
When I was 9 years old, my grandmother introduced me to the sport of lawn bowling. I’ve been lawn bowling ever since. Over the last 8 years I’ve worked hard to grow my skills and experience in the game. I am fortunate to have a number of different opportunities opening up for me. At the beginning of 2017, I was honoured to be selected to be part of the Canadian National Youth Development Squad which is part of the Team Canada program run by Bowls Canada Boulingrin.
About Lawn Bowling
Lawn bowling is a uniquely diverse sport due to the age range of players. This benefits both the old and the young. I believe this represents the spirit of sport -- which to me is to inspire lifelong fitness, wellbeing, positive mental health and community. I love this sport and the community around it, I am very fortunate to have started playing this sport because of the countless opportunities and people I have met.
What I’ve Been Doing This Year
At the beginning of 2017, I was honoured to be selected to be part of the Canadian National Youth Development Squad which is part of the Team Canada program run by Bowls Canada Boulingrin. This past summer, I won gold at the BC Provincial U18 Junior Girls Singles and also Bronze at the Canadian National U18 Junior Girls singles. Ive also won the the Vancouver And District Singles Championships 4 years in a row. This coming December, I will be competing on an individual basis at the 2017 World Indoor Bowls Council Junior Championships in Newport Wales! Being part of this competition will help me gain valuable experience at the International level. It will also support my personal goal of competing at the International level in order to grow my lawn bowling career. My long term plan of being able to represent Canada at the world competition level and to me part of the first Canadian team to compete at the Olympics should lawn bowling eventually be approved as an Olympic sport.
