The problem
There is a crisis in education – join me in being a part of the solution.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, a Masters in Teaching and 10 years of experience in education. I’ve worked mostly with underprivileged youth, and saw firsthand how the education system had neglected to give them the level of competency that they deserve; high school students were reading at a third and fourth grade level. These children grew up believing themselves to be failures, but it wasn’t the kids that had failed - it was the system that had failed them.
Not only "those" kids at the far end of the spectrum are falling between the cracks; there are children at all grades and levels that are silently struggling their way through the education system. I, for instance, was an A student, but my experience within the education system was one of shame and embarrassment, trying to hide my struggle of reading.
I saw myself as a very slow reader and my level of comprehension was poor, when the teachers would ask for someone to read out loud I became as small as humanly possible, avoiding eye contact, hoping that they wouldn’t ask me to read. When my luck ran out and I was picked for the task, I was able to read just well enough for the teachers not to notice there was a problem. As I was reading the passage in front of the class, instead of focusing on what I was reading, I was busy judging myself for being a poor reader and by the end of the passage I had no idea what I had read – I was an A student because I had developed coping skills to hide my struggle and keep my scores high – but the truth was that I didn’t have the confidence or feel like an A student, deep down I knew I was lacking basic skills and there was a constant fear it would catch up with me.
Many children struggle through school and just get by, and as a result many adults have painful memories from their learning experience – learning can, and should be, an enjoyable process or growth and expansion - my goal is to replace frustration with confidence - to prevent the experience of embarrassment, shame and low self-esteem from our children, and to support every person in having access to the best learning tools available so they can redeem their damaged self-esteem with success, achievement and a sense of self-worth.
The solution
Research shows a strong correlation between literacy, vocabulary in particular, and a person’s success. This has been known for years - Literacy is the key; opening the door for confidence, success, creativity and achievement, while illiteracy and the lack of basic learning skills increase the likelihood of violence, poverty and crime.
This is not a complicated idea. Basic learning skills should be a given birth right for each child in our world, regardless of their circumstances. Unfortunately they are not. Even with all the dedicated people who have made education their life purpose, there are simply not enough resources directed to improve public education to once and for all solve the ever growing achievement gap we’re facing. We have an opportunity to change that! There are practical solutions available to support each child in reaching their highest potential.
For the past year, I’ve been working with an educational software company that has developed a tool that can eradicate illiteracy within our lifetime. The software has been tested and the results that individuals, both young and old, have expressed have been phenomenal. We are now facing the stage of relentless marketing in order to reach as many individuals, schools, rehabilitation centers, and other educational organizations as we can.
I’ve been offered to join, as a partner, on the team that’s responsible for making this revolutionary software accessible to each child throughout California. This partnership will enable me to expand my radius of influence and reach more of the people I need to in order to create significant change in California’s education crisis. To be a part of this team and fulfill my vision, I am asked for a significant investment of $60,000 and I need your help.
I am asking you to help me fulfill my part in solving the educational crisis.
The reward
Success can be defined as one’s ability to reach their own goals in life, whatever those goals may be - I believe that anyone, with the right tools and support, can be truly successful and be a significant and meaningful member of their communities.
By supporting me today you are investing in the children and future of California, and since California has been known to be a world leader in innovation, by investing in California you are in fact investing in the children and future of the entire world.
Supporting me in fulfilling this dream, will allow me to expand my reach to more children and families throughout California, as well as give me the jurisdiction to contact educators, senators and other decision makers, to ensure they are well aware of the latest technology and are taking action to implement positive change within the system.
My commitment
This project of reaching out to you for assistance has truly inspired me, and I’ve decided to create a blog as a platform for sharing with you the steps I am taking in reaching my goals, as well as linking educational articles, and any piece of valuable information that I feel strongly towards and believe should be exposed.
You are more than welcome to send me links to articles you find and I will post them along with my point of view – anything to ignite the conversation about the educational crisis and to bring forth more awareness and attention towards educational solutions.
My vision is that each person in the country will have access to the best learning tools available, so we can each be as effective as we can be and reach our true potential, both as individuals and as humanity as a whole, while those who’ve fallen victim to a broken system will have the opportunity to remediate and re-educate themselves. This will allow us all to join together and contribute to society in a constructive way.
