Join us in supporting the restoration of this rare replica of the USS Enterprise 1701-A. The model was salvaged from a local Toronto movie theatre and with your help, is slated to tour events and conferences across North America and across the globe.
More than a photo op for Trekkers, Trekkies and fans alike, our desire is to share this artifact with everyone that shares the mission, vision and values of Star Trek and to use the finished Enterprise display as a fundraising opportunity to support STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) initiatives in the communities we visit.
BUT, getting the Enterprise 1701-A ready for this mission needs your help!
We are looking to raise $150,000 USD to conduct the following activities:
Expertise - Bring in qualified experts to help with the restoration process. This will primarily include people with expertise in model building, electronics and display engineering and development.
Materials - There are structural and electronic components that need to be addressed and we will need to purchase wiring, lighting, fibreglass repair etc.
Tour trailer - the Enterprise 1701-A model is 16ft long, ~7 ft wide and weighs in the vicinity of 200 lbs. As you can imagine, preserving this artifact and safely taking it on tour will require the development of a highly customized transportation system.
The plan is to work with an engineering firm to build a custom trailer that delivers safe transport, but that also allows us to display the Enterprise in various configurations. For example, key features might include:
* Trailer walls that can be removed to form a stage for group photos
* Ramps to provide access to fans with mobility issues
* Electronic and effect enhancements such as lighting and soundscapes
* Design and development of display harness that will allow the Enterprise to pivot on X, Y and Z axes. And if possible, raise and lower.
Time is of the essence and we want to get started on this endeavour immediately. We have received dozens of offers of help and want to get this exciting artifact on tour are quickly as possible.
Your support is appreciated and we welcome the input of the entire community. Our progress on the project can be found here: Enterprise 1701-A Restoration
