Equal Playing Field - Kilimanjaro
Donation protected
The playing field is not equal.
Women's sport remains under-represented, under-supported and undervalued. In many cultures, women are forbidden from playing sport at all.
We are committed to challenging these norms and we are going to start by breaking a World Record...
In June 2017, I am joining a team of female football players to climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest mountain. After reaching the summit, we will descend to 5785 metres and play the world’s highest ever game of competitive football. Together, we will raise awareness of the gender inequality that permeates sports worldwide.
After descending from the mountain, we will split into smaller teams and run simultaneous football training clinics for women and girls in a several countries.
For me personally this was too good an opportunity to miss and the cause we are doing it for is something that I feel very passionate about. I have played football since I was 10 and have been lucky enough to live in a society where I have been allowed to make my own choices. I am doing this for all the women who aren’t allowed freedom to be who they want to be in all aspects of their life. To be part of this game will be both personally rewarding as well as helping many others through the involvement of the charities.
In order to complete this challenge, we need your help!
Donations will be covering the costs of actually getting us up the mountain, we will need to pay people who help us along the way and to officiate the game in order to achieve an official world record. We have quite a large support crew including medics, porters, film crew, refs, and general helpers.
You will be helping us make all this possible, be a part of our world record.
Funds will also be donated to the Equal Playing Field campaign to continue raising awareness and to fund the running of the training clinics.
