Erica Goes to UK Prince Conference

Dear friends, family and fellow purple hippies:

I have been selected to present at "Purple Reign: An interdisciplinary conference on the life and legacy of Prince" at the University of Salford in Manchester, England!

During the conference, which takes place May 24-26, scholars will discuss Prince within multiple contexts, from sound and performance to gender and sexuality.

I will present my master's thesis on Prince's spiritual journey and the spiritual themes in his music. As many of you know, I am in the process of turning my thesis into a book.  My agent is currently pitching my work to publishers, but this conference will provide more exposure and thus increase my chances of getting published.

Getting this opportunity is one of the greatest accomplishments of my career. I love being a journalist, but it's a very modest lifestyle. That's why I'm asking for donations in any amount (even $1 helps) for travel expenses. 

I expect this campaign will appeal to:

1) People who have followed me throughout the years as I've dedicated my life to this research and just want to be supportive.

2) People who love Prince and want to further academic research on the artist.

I will be sure to share pictures and video from the conference (Prince's former guitarist Dez Dickerson will be there). I can't guarantee how many copies of my book will be printed after publication, but I would expect to be able to give the highest bidder a free copy (provided there isn't a tie). =)
