Racing for Children of Angels Place

Many years ago I was suddenly inspired to sit down & actually write out a Physical Bucket List and then to keep myself accountable and share my adventures, I posted it online at www.EricGamble.com. Writing the list was relatively easy for me because I broke it down into 5 categories:
1) Adventure Travel
2) Adventure Activities & Experiences
3) Personal Growth
4) Things I wanted to do for Others
5) Opportunities to try to Make Amends with Certain People
Those of you who know me, know that each year I actively tackle many of the over 200+ items on this list as well as assisting others in going after their personal bucket list dreams. It's driven me to accomplish my dreams as well as given me the opportunity to help others!
That commitment brings me to several of the biggest items on my Bucket List:
14) Participate in 1 Adventurist Race: Preferably the RickShaw Run
199) Raise thousands of dollars for charity
69) Travel to the Taj Mahal, India
THE RICKSHAW RUN ?
The Rickshaw Run is a 14-day road trip from the bottom of India to the top in a 3-wheeled Tuk Tuk (a tricycle with an engine). There will likely be many wrong turns, mechanical and mental breakdowns, mutinies and a love-hate relationship with Indian food, all while raising money for charities working to save the world.
After finding an unsuspecting co-pilot, together, we will race highly unstable glorified tricycles that will break down continuously, travel without a set of directions and overcome more obstacles in our path than contestants on a Japanese game show. We will battle the 1.2 billion people and 140 million vehicles in India while experiencing one crazy adventure and trying not to die!
SO WHY ON EARTH AM I DOING THIS??
1) Because I truly believe the old Roman Proverb:
"It is better to live one day as a Lion than a thousand days as a Lamb."
2) Because what better way to raise money for two epic but very different causes?
ALL proceeds raised on this GOFUND ME PAGE will go directly to two charities:
60% of your donation will go towards a New Orleans non-profit close my heart: Angel's Place
40% of your donation will go to The Adventurists' designated charity: Cool Earth
Angel's Place - (AngelsPlaceNola.org)
There are many struggles that come with having a life-threatening condition, even more so when the patient is a child. How is a child to cope with the treatments and how does a parent cope with their child being in danger? The emotional and financial stress is a lot for a family to bear. Many parents in this situation don’t have anyone to turn to for help.
Angel's Place is a charity for families with children diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses, including cancers. They provide children’s respite care and other aid to clients in Louisiana and southern Mississippi.
.
Cool Earth - (www.coolearth.org)
Cool Earth is an environmental charity that works in partnership with the indigenous communities. The charity only protects rainforest that without intervention will be destroyed within the next 18 months.
Cool Earth works strategically, protecting forest that acts as a barrier to a wider landscape. The charity spends just over 10% of your donation on admin and governance making sure as much as possible goes to project areas.
Through working with local people, Cool Earth makes sure conservation goes hand and hand with better livelihoods.
THE WRAP UP (finally! geez, Eric is long winded!)
Therefore, on February 25, 2016, my 40th Birthday, I will officially sign up for Rickshaw Run in India. I will be signing up for the January 2017 RACE.
When - 01.02.2017 - 01.15.17
Where - Kochi, India --> Jaisalmer, India
So, what can you do?:
1) Donate! Every cent counts in helping these great charities.
2) Spread the word. Friends, family, social media, colleagues, the more the merrier.
3) Follow me on Facebook
Remember via this GoFundMe Page, you're not paying for me: 100% of the funds raised here go to the 2 charities. None of the donated funds on this site will be used to cover the costs of doing the Rickshaw Run, getting us to and from India, or the various overseas expeditions that are currently underway
Still have a question?
If you have any questions or concerns (apart from for my safety, my mental sanity, or how I feel about Pluto not being an "official" planet) feel free to get in touch with me via facebook or at my Bucket List Site: www.EricGamble.com
