Send the Rookie Esquimalt Atom Smashers Robotics team to the FIRST Robotics Championships  in Houston, Texas!

Esquimalt High School, based in Victoria, B.C., formed their first ever Robotics team this year and entered into the FIRST Robotics Canadian Pacific regional competition which took place on March 14-16, 2018 at the Save On Foods Centre in Victoria, BC.

Each entered team had 6 weeks to build a robot to perform certain tasks as laid out by FIRST Robotics.

Most of the 30 teams they were competing against in the Pacific regionals came in with numbers anywhere from 30-80 students on a team. Our rookie team of just 13 students, over half of which are only in grades 9 and 10, outperformed some of the most well-seasoned teams and very unexpectedly  WON the ROOKIE ALL STAR AWARD, which is a Championship Qualifying Award!!!

Which means our team has an invite to travel to Houston Texas to compete in the most prestigious high school international robotics competition!

The Championships take place April 18-21, 2018! So we have a VERY TIGHT TIMELINE in which to raise the funds for the students. We need to have enough money raised by APRIL 6th, 2018, otherwise the students will not be able to attend.

The robotics competition heavily promotes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. Our team is structured with roles, including programming, building, marketing and business, with each student contributing and developing their strengths.

This program has enabled our students to design, engineer, innovate, problem-solve and work together as a team. It's been a learning experience like no other they have, or will come across.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all of the students on the Esquimalt Atom Smashers robotics team.

What an amazing local underdog story! These students never expected to make it this far, and they are so excited at the prospect of being able to represent not only the Township of Esquimalt, but the Greater Victoria area and Vancouver Island! Our own hometown heroes!

We are looking for support to be able to fully fund  these students to travel to Houston , TX to compete in the Championships.

To do this we need to raise $2200.00 per student.

$2200.00 for each traveller covers:
-Team entry fee for the Championship competition
-Shipping the robot "Spike" from Victoria, BC to Houston,TX
-Round trip airfare from Victoria, BC to Houston TX from Apr 17-22, 2018
-Medical insurance
-3 Meals per day
-Accommodation for 6 nights
-Transportation to and from both ariports
-Transportation from the hotel to the competition
-A tour of the NASA Space centre in Houston, TX

Please spread this to your friends, family, co-workers, every dollar counts towards helping these kids further their educational opportunity.
